Ahrens Trade High School and its Faculty supported several thousand young men and women well for the next fifteen years to build and grow into specialists in many fields of opportunity. In 1980 the Board of Education decided it best to close Ahrens, as we all knew it, a school for learning a trade that fit our lives and interest. Today the school is split into two schools. The newest section became the James Graham Brown School. It is a school that teaches K though 12th grade. It is very different than most schools in the area and has a waiting list to enroll. Ahrens is now solely located at the old entrance and uses the old building for its educational teaching. The Ahrens Work Transition Program today is the only program carrying the Ahrens name. This program helps young challenged adults to become self-efficient at carrying on their lives in a fast growing work place. The students enroll in this program after graduating from their high school and it is a 3-year course. Other classes still being taught at Ahrens are for obtaining a GED certificate. Page five |
